Movie Meltdown - Episode 147

This week features special guest co-host Emma Caulfield. Star of the web series “Bandwagon“, the feature film “Darkness Falls” and a little show you might have heard of called “Buffy the Vampire Slayer“.

In honor of this week’s movie, we start off swapping movie scars from our childhood. And we forgo most standard “professional” questions and go straight for the geeky essentials. And Emma does not disappoint.

Then we discuss this week’s Sofa Theater feature: JAWS! The Spielberg blockbuster that changed the movie industry, left a definitive mark on pop culture for generations… and probably killed a lot of beach activity for several years.

And while basking in the appreciation of our applause app, we also mention… Poltergeist, Tarantino, Laura, Flash Gordon, dynamic and interesting female characters, Aliens, Take Shelter, being an actress in previous years versus today, Moby Dick, the Toht melting scene, remakes, Hitchcock, the creatures in the cantina, Kubrick, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Inception, being a drama queen, Jesus Christ Superstar, Empire of the Sun, I slept in my parent’s bed for a week, Rebecca, Super 8, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Birds and being deathly afraid of sharks. (Hmmm, I wonder what brought that on?)

Spoiler Alert: Hopefully they pulled you aside in school and sat you down for your government-sponsored viewing of “Jaws”. If not, write to your congressman. Oh yeah, and go watch the movie!

“I just think it mastered character and suspense and action - in a way that no other film really has done.”
