Movie Meltdown - Episode 124

As we welcome our friend Lucy into the mix, we return to the coffee shop for another edition of The Caffeinated Movie Geek. And once we get rolling, it’s hard to get us to stop. And so that leads to…

Black Swan, Surrogates, Bridesmaids, women are scary, Trick ‘r Treat, robotic acting, more love for Rutger Hauer, not watching TV when it’s on, kung fu vampires, believably dumb Steve Zahn, the chain of cutting off arms, more remakes, Legends of the Guardians, Treme, the Water for Elephants throw-down, Neil Jordan, Eric Overmyer: Lead Suspect, Jay Leno’s bastard daughter, Columbo, a documentary on pinkie toe cancer, Blade Runner, The Virgin Springs, the economy of movement, Scatalogical humor, John Goodman, Rashomon, Kristen Stewart‘s acting style, Kristen Wiig, Rocket Science, Fight Club, this was a kitten-torturing movie, Penthouse Forums without the sex, commie smurfs, the least appealing human being that’s ever been captured in cinema, Ed Asner is pretty hot, the very distinct features of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Trapped in a Closet, an introduction by Anne Rice, Mods vs. Rockers, who’s the most attractive woman…that looks like Skeletor?, The Miracle, Jim Jarmusch, The Target Lady, anything else you just hate??, Helena Bonham-Carter…we’re just through with you, being a great ex-husband, The King’s Speech makes me a dick and does being a geek make you pissed off all the time??

“It was like tedium occasionally interrupted with…violence against animals.”

Movie Meltdown - Episode 123

This week we hang out at one of our favorite stops - WonderFest. A sci-fi, horror & movie special effects convention that features the largest model contest in the U.S.

Join us as we talk to amazing artist Belle Dee. You've seen her featured in Rue Morgue and Little Shop of Horrors magazines - plus she just received the Rondo Award for “Fan Artist of the Year”.

Then we sit down with the “First Lady of Classic Fantasy and Horror”, actress Caroline Munro! As if being a Hammer babe and a Bond girl wasn’t enough, she also appeared in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Starcrash and the Dr. Phibes films.

Plus we talk to miniature and modeler royalty - Lorne Peterson. He was primary modeler and model shop supervisor at Industrial Light and Magic in a career that lasted 33 years! Lorne literally helped create the Star Wars universe we came to know and love, as well working on the Indiana Jones series, Men in Black, Jurassic Park and countless other films.

And somewhere in the middle of looking at all the models, we bring up…

League of Gentlemen, getting kidnapped in Argentina, Yamaha snowmobiles, My Little Pony Mash-ups, Jim Carrey, And Soon The Darkness, The Rock saying bad words, Peter Cushing, Richard Kiel, Let's Go to Prison, Karl Urban, reading’ and zombies, Geek Hipsters?, Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter, Roger Moore, hugging John Schneider on a daily basis, Joe Spinell, a badass pony?, The Smallville finale, f-ing up The Grinch, The Hamburglar, Pitch Black, skullet’s aren’t a good look for anyone, Klingon zombies?, $2 mini water, cutting with an X-acto knife, The Last Horror Film, fresh baked cupcakes from Bo Duke, a clenched fist in a glove, Race to Witch Mountain, Maniac, Vinyl model kits, The Spy Who Loved Me, I Love You Phillip Morris, problems with the Death Star, European filmmaking, Michael Rosenbaum‘s career, getting killed in Australia, The Horde, Christopher Lee, The Truman Show, Amber Heard, The Chronicles of Riddick, sleeping on the script, Doom and a more efficient Japanese toilet.

Spoiler Alert: Minor plot point spoilers for I Love You Phillip Morris and The Horde and a major plot point spoiler for And Soon The Darkness.

“I used to do model cars, I ain’t gonna lie. I was pretty f-ing awesome at it. But I‘m awesome at most things."

Movie Meltdown - Episode 122

Right off the bat, we remind you what things are like in the real world, with one of our more disgusting Marlena Moments. From there we stay on the hard core path of the real world, as we discuss this week’s Sofa Theater feature: The Last American Virgin. A movie that presents itself as a standard “sex comedy”, but as we find out, “It takes a dark turn….” Yes, this movie scarred one, (if not all) of our cast members for life. Plus a One from the Vaults memory from actress Diane Franklin about making The Last American Virgin.

All that plus…82 Jonah Hill, Rose wins you over, 9 ½ , creepy doctors, wearing tighty-whities, snorting Pixie Stix, G.I. Joe figures, hooking up without a condom, Amanda Seyfried gets naked, you got screwed over by life, price check on crabs medicine, pining away for a chick, Karen is spelled with a K, waiting for the Last American Virgin 2..., the joke of the universe, pretty people having ugly kids, a very disturbing After-School Special, Michael Winslow, donkeyesque and the best Crying Game story ever!! Plus lots of offensive comments about that one thing, that we can’t mention without spoiling things. So, don’t listen if you are sensitive about that one thing…that we can’t mention right now.

Spoiler Alert: Seriously…go watch “The Last American Virgin” before you listen, because we cover the entire plot including the big finale. Oh yeah, and we spoil that big Crying Game secret as well.

“Thanks for ruining Christmas and oranges from now on…”
